Hardwired vs Wi-Fi Intercoms

Can I see who is at my door from my phone?
Yes - that is one of the main reasons people upgrade. Akuvox sends a live video call to your smartphone the moment someone presses the doorbell. Two-way audio, ability to unlock the door or open the gate, and works from anywhere with internet.
Do I need a licensed installer for an intercom?
For low-voltage standalone intercoms, no - any competent installer can do it. But for intercoms tied to electric strike locks, gate motors, alarm systems, or fixed mains-powered components, yes. All those are licensed work in Queensland and we hold the licences (QLD Electrical 1510557, QLD Security Firms 4913215).
Will my intercom work without internet?
The local components (door panel to indoor monitor, door release, etc.) all work without internet because they are wired locally. The smartphone app feature requires internet for the panel to call your phone - but if internet is down, the doorbell still rings the indoor monitor as normal.
Can I add an electric strike lock to my existing front door?
Usually yes - most timber and aluminium doors can have electric strikes retrofitted to the door frame. Some modern frames need adapter plates. We assess on the day and include any adapter or frame work in the quote.
Can the intercom open my gate?
Yes - we integrate intercoms with Centsys, FAAC, BFT, Came, and other common gate motors used on the Sunshine Coast. From the smartphone app you can open the gate, hold it open for a delivery, or grant time-limited access to a tradesperson.
How does an apartment building intercom work?
A central panel at the building entry calls each individual unit. Each unit has either an indoor monitor, smartphone app access, or both. Body corporate retains override access for emergencies and visitor management. We design and install for the full building, not just one unit.
Can I integrate the intercom with my alarm or smart home?
Yes. Akuvox integrates with HDL, Clipsal C-Bus, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, and Ajax security. Use cases: doorbell triggers a "lights on" scene at night, gate opening starts an outdoor camera recording, alarm armed disables the doorbell sound. We build the scenes during commissioning.

Can I replace an existing apartment intercom with a new system?
