Exhaust Fan Installation Sunshine Coast - Goodbye Mould
A properly-sized, properly-ducted exhaust fan is the difference between a bathroom that stays dry and one that grows black mould on the ceiling. We install exhaust fans across the Sunshine Coast that actually work.

Professional Exhaust Fan Installation Across the Sunshine Coast
The Sunshine Coast climate is brutal on bathrooms, kitchens, and laundries. Hot, humid air condenses on cool surfaces and grows mould fast. A correctly sized and ducted exhaust fan is the single biggest defence - it pulls moisture and steam out before it has time to settle. The catch is that most exhaust fans we replace were installed badly the first time. Wrong size, wrong duct, or vented straight into the ceiling cavity instead of outside.
We install exhaust fans across the whole coast. Down south through Caloundra, Pelican Waters, Currimundi, and Wurtulla. Across the coastal strip in Mooloolaba, Maroochydore, Alexandra Headland, and Coolum Beach. Up the ranges to Buderim, Sippy Downs, Mountain Creek, and Forest Glen. And all the way north to Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Sunshine Beach, Peregian Springs, and Peregian Beach. Bathrooms, kitchens, laundries, garages, and home offices all covered.
The number-one mistake we see on Sunshine Coast bathroom installs is the duct vented into the ceiling cavity instead of through the roof or eave. That moves the moisture problem from the bathroom to the roof timbers - black mould, rot, and ruined ceiling insulation within a year. Every exhaust fan we install gets ducted to the outside. Always.
Xceed handles every kind of exhaust fan job - replacing a tired bathroom fan, ducting a kitchen rangehood, installing inline fans for long duct runs, fitting heat-lamp combo units, or designing extraction for a new build. What sets us apart on the Sunshine Coast is that we install the exhaust fans, the lighting, the smart controls, the security, and the data cabling all under the one licensed team (QLD Electrical Licence 1510557, NSW 338814C).
We size fans to the room (extraction rate in cubic metres per hour vs room volume), run rated insulated duct to the outside, and connect to the right switching - timer, occupancy sensor, or humidity-trigger humidistat. The fan actually moves air, the moisture actually leaves the building, and the ceiling stays mould-free.
Exhaust Fan Installation Services on the Sunshine Coast
Bathroom Exhaust Fan Installation
Standard bathroom exhaust fans, IP-rated for damp locations, ducted to outside. Sized to the bathroom volume so it actually clears steam and moisture, not just makes noise.
Heat-Lamp & Exhaust Fan Combo Units
3-in-1 combo units with heat lamp, exhaust fan, and main light in a single ceiling fitting. Popular in family bathrooms and ensuites for instant warmth and ventilation.
Kitchen Rangehood & Exhaust Installation
Rangehood replacement, ducting, and switchboard hook-up. We can also install dedicated kitchen exhaust fans separate from the rangehood for steam over kitchen islands.
Laundry Exhaust Fan Installation
Dryer extraction and humidity control for enclosed laundries. Prevents condensation, mould, and the dryer-running-too-hot problem caused by trapped warm air.
Inline & Ducted Exhaust Fans
For long duct runs (over 4-5m), inline fans installed mid-duct provide better extraction than ceiling-mounted units. Common on bathrooms in middle of large homes.
Garage & Workshop Ventilation
Heat and fume extraction for home garages, workshops, and pool pump rooms. Sized for genuine air changes per hour, not just token ventilation.
Smart, Humidity & Timer Switching
Humidistat-controlled fans (auto-on at high humidity), occupancy sensor wiring, and smart-home integration. Fan runs when needed, not when remembered.
Choosing the Right Exhaust Fan Setup
Extraction Rate (Cubic Metres Per Hour)
Bathrooms need 6-8 air changes per hour. A 12 m³ bathroom (3m x 2m x 2.4m) needs roughly 75-100 m³/h. We size fans to room volume, not just brand. Underspec is the most common reason a bathroom still grows mould.
Ducted vs Vented (and Why It Matters)
Vented (no duct) just dumps moisture into the ceiling cavity - causes mould in the roof. Ducted to outside (through the eave or roof) is the only correct install. Every fan we put in gets ducted out. No exceptions.
IPX Ratings for Damp Zones
Bathroom fans must be IPX4 minimum. Fans installed directly above showers need IPX5. IPX ratings ensure the fan handles humidity and splash without short-circuiting. We always specify the correct IP rating for the zone.
Switching: Light, Timer, Humidistat, or Sensor
Wired to the light switch (runs while you are in the bathroom), separate switch (on demand), timer (runs for set minutes after light off), humidistat (auto-on at high humidity). For Sunshine Coast bathrooms, timer or humidistat is standard.
Noise Level (Sones)
Cheap fans buzz at 4-5 sones; quality fans run at 1-2 sones. The expensive bit is not the fan itself, it is the soft-mount installation, vibration isolators, and duct sizing. Done properly, a kitchen or bathroom exhaust is barely noticeable.
Combined Heat Lamps & Exhaust Fans
Combo units (heat lamps + exhaust + light in one fitting) are popular but trade off: heat lamps run hot, fan motor sits next to them. We install combo units only where space requires it; separate units last longer and perform better.
Exhaust Fan Installation Across the Sunshine Coast
Caloundra to Pelican Waters
Down the south end - Caloundra, Pelican Waters, Golden Beach, Currimundi, Kings Beach, Moffat Beach, Shelly Beach, and Aroona. Older bathrooms with no extraction or vented-to-cavity setups are common down here.
Maroochydore, Mooloolaba & Coastal Strip
Across the coastal strip - Maroochydore, Mooloolaba, Alexandra Headland, Cotton Tree, Buddina, Minyama, Warana, and Bokarina. Coastal humidity makes good extraction non-negotiable.
Buderim, Mountain Creek & Sippy Downs
Up the hill - Buderim, Mountain Creek, Sippy Downs, Forest Glen, Tanawha, Kuluin, and Kunda Park. Older Buderim homes with original 80s-era exhaust fans are prime upgrade candidates.
Noosa Region & Hinterland
Noosa Heads, Noosaville, Sunshine Beach, Peregian Springs, Peregian Beach, Tewantin, Doonan, and Eumundi. Multi-bathroom installs and full renovation packages a regular feature.
Nambour, Yandina & Hinterland
Hinterland - Nambour, Yandina, Woombye, Palmwoods, Maleny, Montville, Mapleton, and Flaxton. Older Queenslanders with no original extraction often need a full plan, not just a fan swap.
Coolum, Mudjimba & Northern Suburbs
North of the river - Coolum Beach, Mudjimba, Marcoola, Twin Waters, Pacific Paradise, Mount Coolum, and Yaroomba. Beachfront properties need marine-rated grilles and corrosion-resistant fan housings.

Exhaust Fan Installation - Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? We've got answers.
How much does exhaust fan installation cost on the Sunshine Coast?
A standard bathroom exhaust fan replacement runs $260 to $440. New installs requiring duct, roof penetration, or new circuit run $480 to $850. Heat-lamp combo units and inline ducted setups are quoted separately. Every job gets a full upfront quote before we start.
Why does my bathroom still grow mould after the fan was installed?
Almost always one of two things - the fan is undersized for the room, or the duct vents into the ceiling cavity instead of outside. We size fans to room volume and always duct to the outside. We can also retrofit a duct to an existing fan that was vented incorrectly.
Should the exhaust fan be on the same switch as the bathroom light?
It is the simplest setup but not necessarily the best. A timer switch (runs the fan for 10-20 minutes after the light is off) clears moisture far better. A humidistat (auto-on at high humidity) is the most effective option. We install whichever you prefer.
Do exhaust fans need to be ducted?
Yes. Always. Ducted to outside through an eave or roof terminator. Vented into the ceiling cavity is a common shortcut that creates mould in your roof timbers and ceiling insulation - not the bathroom problem you wanted to solve, but a far more expensive one.
Can I install an exhaust fan myself?
No - exhaust fan installation involves connecting fixed wiring (licensed electrical work in Queensland) and often requires roof or eave penetration. DIY voids your home insurance. Every Xceed install is performed by a licensed electrician (QLD Licence 1510557).
How long does exhaust fan installation take?
A like-for-like replacement of an existing ducted fan runs about 1 to 1.5 hours. New installs needing duct and roof or eave terminator take 2 to 4 hours. Heat-lamp combo units and inline ducted setups can take half a day. We give you a clear time window with every quote.
How big should my bathroom exhaust fan be?
For 6-8 air changes per hour. A 12 m³ bathroom (3m x 2m x 2.4m) needs around 75-100 m³/h. A 20 m³ bathroom needs 120-160 m³/h. We size to room volume, not just budget. Underspec is the single biggest reason bathrooms still grow mould.
Do exhaust fans work above showers?
Yes, but the fan must be IPX5-rated to handle direct splash, and the wiring must comply with AS/NZS 3000 zoning rules. We install over-shower exhaust fans regularly - the position is actually one of the most effective for steam removal.
Can I get a heat lamp and exhaust fan in one unit?
Yes - 3-in-1 combo units (heat lamp, light, and exhaust fan in one ceiling fitting) are very popular. They save space but the fan motor runs hotter due to the lamps and tend to wear faster than separate fittings. We can advise on whether combo or separate is right for your bathroom.
Are humidity-sensing exhaust fans worth it?
For Sunshine Coast bathrooms, yes. A humidistat-controlled fan runs only when humidity climbs - so it kicks in during showers, runs until moisture is gone, and stays off the rest of the time. Lower running costs and far better mould prevention than light-switched-only fans.
