Choosing the Right Chandelier for Your Sunshine Coast Home
Ceiling Height and Drop
For dining rooms, hang the bottom of the chandelier 75 to 90 cm above the table. For voids and stairwells, the fixture should be visible from the floor below without blocking sightlines from the upper level.
Weight, Mounting, and Structural Backing
A heavy chandelier needs more than a plasterboard ceiling rose. We install rated structural mounting blocks - timber backing, steel saddles, or rated junction boxes - so the load is carried into the joists, not the plaster.
Lamp Type: LED, Halogen, or Incandescent?
Modern chandeliers run on LED candle, filament, or G9/E14 LED lamps. They use a fraction of the power of incandescent or halogen and last 10x longer. Pick decorative LED filament lamps where the bulb is visible.
Dimmer Compatibility
Cheap dimmers cause flicker, buzz, and uneven dimming with LED lamps. We install dedicated LED-rated trailing-edge dimmers and test them with your specific lamps so dimming is smooth from 0 to 100%.

Can you install a chandelier in a stairwell or high ceiling?
Yes. Stairwell and void installs are some of our most common chandelier jobs. We bring scaffolding or extension ladders depending on height, and we have the rated mounting hardware needed for heavy fixtures suspended at distance. Always priced upfront based on access.
Will my existing ceiling rose hold a heavy chandelier?
Probably not. Standard ceiling roses are rated for around 5 kg. A medium chandelier is 8 to 15 kg; large feature pieces can be 25+ kg. We install rated structural mounting blocks - timber backing, steel saddles, or beefed-up junction boxes - to carry the load safely into the ceiling joists.
Do I need a licensed electrician to install a chandelier?
Yes. Connecting fixed wiring is licensed electrical work in Queensland. DIY chandelier installation voids your home insurance and risks structural failure or fire. Every Xceed install is performed by a licensed electrician (QLD Licence 1510557) and is fully insured.
What lamp type should my chandelier use?
For most modern chandeliers, LED candle or filament lamps in E14, E27, B22, or G9 fittings. They use a fraction of the power of incandescent, run cool, last 10x longer, and look great where the lamp is decorative and visible. Avoid old-style halogen capsules unless the fixture specifically needs them.
Can my chandelier be dimmed?
Yes, with the right setup. The dimmer must be LED-rated (most are not), and it should match the specific lamp brand and type used in the chandelier. We test dimmer-and-lamp compatibility on the spot to eliminate flicker, buzz, and uneven dimming.
How long does chandelier installation take?
A standard chandelier swap takes 1 to 2 hours. High ceiling or stairwell installs needing scaffolding can take 3 to 5 hours including access setup. Heavy custom fixtures with structural mounting blocks may need a half-day. We give you a clear time window with every quote.
Can you install an outdoor chandelier on my alfresco area?
Yes. We install IP-rated chandeliers and feature pendants in covered outdoor areas - alfresco rooms, pool pavilions, and entries. The fitting must be specifically rated for outdoor or damp-location use; we will check the IP rating before quoting and recommend marine-grade options for coastal homes.
Do you supply chandeliers or install ones I have already bought?
Both. We are happy to install a chandelier you have purchased - online, from a designer, or imported. We can also source quality fixtures from local suppliers. If you supply, the manufacturer warranty covers the product; our workmanship warranty covers the install.
Can you remove and reinstall a chandelier during renovations?
Yes. We safely remove existing chandeliers for painting, ceiling work, or renovations, pack them properly, store if needed, and reinstall when works are done. Common during kitchen and dining room renovations.
